Path to Eternity
The journey of faith loss is a profoundly complex and emotional journey, one that I have personally struggled with since the deconstruction of my faith began in 2019 from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints; utilizing visual art, performance, and multimedia installation, “Path to Eternity” translates the personal and collective experiences of former members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. By weaving together interviews I conducted from other women who have left the faith, “Path to Eternity” explores themes of institutional trauma, inherited belief, and the reconstruction of identity. Through these themes, art is used as a cathartic and critical tool, becoming a sacred instrument to myself and others that allows for mourning, questioning, and the forging of new self-outside of the religious structure.
Oh God
“When I First imagined my performance I planned to remain silent… Everything changed when I was standing there, feeling the past emotions I experienced when I first witnessed temple videos. I wanted to scream, to cry, to destroy—so I did.”
